Shadowrun Between Science Fiction and Fantasy $96.59 The pieces of the Shadowrun novel series present an interesting problem. Should they be categorized as Science Fiction or Fantasy novels? In order to answer this question we have to know exactly what these two genres represent. Unfortunately their definition is not at all unified. The only thing that we can say for sure is that they do exist. The countless books belonging to either of these genres are proof of that. And still, there is much confusion about them. This is why I feel the need to examine both genres and dispel some of the misunderstandings. In this book I will present the history, criticism and characteristics of Science Fiction and Fantasy. So the majority of my book is not about Shadowrun, but the two important genres. In the second part of my book I present and analyze the Shadowrun series through one of the novels, in order to locate it within the genres and further clarifying the differences between Science Fiction and Fantasy. I recommend this book not just for Shadowrun, Sf and Fantasy fans, but anyone who would like to know more about these genres. The Ancient History of Universalism $48.63 1842. This treatise presents the history of universalism from the time of the apostles to its condemnation in the Fifth General Council, 553 AD, with an appendix tracing the doctrine down to the era of the Reformation. The attentive reader will discover that the ancient history of universalism is naturally distinguished, by certain peculiarities, into three successive periods: the first, extending to the year 190; the second running to the year 390 or 394; and the third, reaching to the Fifth General Council in 553 AD. Due to the age and scarcity of the original we reproduced, some pages may be spotty, faded or difficult to read. The History of Lawyers Ancient and Modern $44.14 A Detailed History of Lawyers in Ancient Greece, Rome, England and FranceFirst published in 1849 in London under the title Hortensius: or, The Advocate, Forsyths History of Lawyers is a spirited account of advocacy in ancient Greece, Rome, and England and of the bar in France. Frequently citing classical sources with his own translations, he describes in impressive detail such things as curious trials and the rights and obligations of counsel.William Forsyth 18121899] was an English lawyer and author of many works on law and literature, including History Of Trial By Jury (1852).CONTENTS CHAPTER I. Sources for Ancient History $76.47 If a scholar wishes to create a picture of a topical society in all its aspects, there is little of what he needs to know that he cannot know, although there may still be much that he cannot understand. For the history of Greece and Rome, there is a great deal that is simply unknowable. From the end of the archaic age of Greece, there is an unbroken sequence of works by Greek and, later, Roman historians down to the end of antiquity. Their vision and range of interest were often limited and much of what they produced has been lost. Some help may be derived from the documentary material supplied in antiquity, material that was the product of officials organising public activities, or heads of families organising their affairs, or individuals leaving their mark on the world. Beyond this, the evidence of archaeology and numismatics may also be helpful. The four essays in this book set out to characterise the nature of the ancient literary tradition, the inscriptional material, the archaeological and numismatic evidence and to explain how and for what purposes they may be used. Then, in 1898, hidden in a small chamber behind a secret wall in a tomb in the Valley of Kings, three anonymous, seemingly ordinary mummies were found – and soon forgotten. For a hundred years, they laid there in the dark, neglected and unexamined. Watch as Dr. Joann Fletcher returns to that hidden chamber to prove that one of the mummies – referred to as "younger woman" – is Nefertiti. In profile, the mummy's face unmistakably resembles that of a famous Nefertiti bust – carved during her lifetime – that rests in a museum in Berlin. Another clue is the way the fingers of her right hand are curled – as if she was grasping a royal scepter at the time of her burial. Cursory examination of the mummy reveals shocking post-mortem damage – her chest cavity has been smashed, her arm broken off and her jawbone crushed. This could be the handiwork of grave robbers or – as Dr. Fletcher suggests – the work of the queen's own vengeful subjects. But, the damage doesn't prevent Dr. Fletcher's team from accurately reconstructing Nefertiti's face – revealing on camera for the first time one of history's most legendary beauties. Join the Quest and explore the life, leadership and the final resting place of ancient Egypt's most powerful queen.
