Shadowrun Fourth Edition

Shadowrun animal characters?
Well, one of my friends go into Shadowrun (Fourth Edition, if that matters) and will help me to make a character and all the fun things. Now he says I can play the type of characters of animals, dolls if you want, and I really want, but said there was a "expansion" to the basic rule book or something. If so what book is so you can get, or tell me its not.
